The Ground Rules.

Contrary to popular belief,
every film with a female protagonist is not a Chick Flick.

And every film with a male protagonist is not a Dick Flick.

Sometimes a film is just ... a film,
A story about a human being.

This blog is devoted to figuring out which is which.

This is a classic chick flick.
It has everything a classic chick flick requires.
  • It stars Diane Keaton.
  • She has a VERY successful career in NYC.
  • She makes a lot, a lot of money.
  • She has an adorable baby without giving birth.
  • She gets fired BUT is somehow able to easily buy a huge beautiful farm house in Vermont.
  • She drives a classic woody station wagon.
  • The only single guy in town her age is ... Sam Shepherd.
  • He thinks she's cute as a button.
  • She thinks he's a ladies man (but still cute.)
  • They dance at the Harvest Moon Ball.
  • She invents designer baby food and gets even richer.
  • Sam loves her, even rich.
  • The NYC jerks that fired her now come groveling back.
  • She tells them to shove it and goes home to Vermont to Sam and her adorable baby (who calls Sam, "Daddy".).
This is the ultimate dick flick.
Why? I will tell you.
  • It stars TWELVE angry men.
  • And ZERO women.
  • Each angry man has a cool way of killing.
  • There is a lot of war going on.
  • Everyone gets very dirty and never showers.
  • There is a lot of shooting.
  • There is a lot of beating up.
  • There is a lot of surprising the enemy.
  • There is a lot of camaraderie.
  • There are no babies.
  • There are no moonlight dances.
  • There is no pesky romance to mess things up.
  • At least one of the guys you like gets killed.
  • A LOT of the enemy gets killed.
  • There is very little crying.
